TWD bangs out a winner to open it's sixth season in black & white. season 6 of TWD is off to a spectacular start because they not only gave us more of what we all came to see, but actually raised the bar with the out of sequence format separated brilliantly by black & white scenes which were a representation of what had already taken place verses color for the present time. It gave us something fresh and kept me on my toes trying to figure out what the plan was, let alone how it was actually going to play out. Put on your readers and pop up some corn because there's much to talk about and this blog is going to be packed. Let's get started. Glenn vs NicholasGlenn is stronger and wiser this season than he's ever been, and is taking the leadership roll by the horns with Nicholas who is pretty desperate to prove himself after the whole Noah debacle last season. When an ill-fated supply run left his partner Adrian dead. Nicholas blamed Glenn and when Noah was killed in the turnstile of death (one of the most notoriously gruesome deaths in TWD history) Glenn blamed Nicholas. The result was a showdown in the woods that found Glenn ultimately the victor, but true to his merciful nature he spared Nicholas. Glenn's instincts are spot on not wanting him to come along for the big plan to save Alexandria from the looming walker threat. Before Nicholas meets what I hope is a notably dreadful end, I just know he's going to be the cause of some poor innocent characters demise . I don't even really want to think about it. Sasha vs AbrahamThere is a very interesting role reversal happening here, because last season following the loss of her brother Tyreese, we saw Sasha struggle with her sanity and will to survive. She was reckless with her life and in pulling stunts like laying among the corpses and Alexandria family photo target practice, it left fans wondering if she could even be trusted at all. But something happened in last seasons finally that seemed to mark a paradoxical moment,. In the rock-bottom scene where Sasha comes to the little chapel to ask Father (fucked in the head) Gabriel for help and is denied. I think she goes within and finds herself somehow. It's at almost that same moment Abraham found himself face to face (so to speak) with the bodies of the two men that met their deaths on the seemingly serine streets of Alexandria that night . Even by his own later mention, it had some profound affect on him. In episode 1 this season, he's the new Sasha. Needlessly jumping from the car to round walkers back onto the planned path using himself as the tantalizing walker bait. It seems he expects her to relate to him unaware that for her the page has turned. I'm happy to have her back. Now maybe she can use her new found Zen to reel Abe back into the fold. Morgan vs CarolMorgan's character coming back was something that I wouldn't have predicted let alone coming back as a completely changed man light years advanced from the crazed person they'd left with his traps and franticly tagged walls. New Morgan is a throwback to the old kung fu master. He walks softly and carries a big stick. Carol has been the master of disguise and deception since her arrival in Alexandria, she's taken the powerful place of Ricks right hand and managed to fool everyone into taking her for a sweet helpless granny who aspires to bake cookies all day, but Morgan is quite the observer. Morgan detects something in Carol she hadn't intended to reveal about herself and asks her if she's a cop like Rick. It takes her aback and puts her on caution. She and Morgan are quite evenly matched in wits and observation, it's going to be interesting to see how this relationship plays out. Rick vs DarylIt seems when Rick lost his beard the mind went with it, because his behavior has been erratic at best and I'm not sure how long the troops are going to stay in line . Daryl never cared much for fitting into the whole community living idea from the beginning. Living in the wild for so long gave him doubts about his ablilty to conform to such a degree of domestication. But being asked to scout with Aaron was exactly the perfect thing he needed to find his spot in the community, it was his niche, allowing the wild side to be satisfied while his human side was still slowly nurtured by being able to provide a needed service for the group and being welcomed. In this episode Rick is threatening that comfortable position by flat out shutting it down no questions asked. "We're not bringing anybody else here." The look on Daryl's face made it very apparent he wasn't cool with that call. Daryl was the follower in his relationship with his brother , but there came a time when his demands were too much and Daryl stood his ground against him. I see the same situation threatening to repeat itself. Michonne & MorganThese two are probably kindred spirits because there are many similarities from the fact that they both lost their families, went into a hellish mental space and came out better on the other side, right down to the weapons. Morgan has even managed to expose a nerve between Michonne and Rick's reckless leadership., but one can begin to wonder what the true angle of Morgan's slow methodical prodding really is. Is he seeking out the cracks to help heal, or to plant seeds of doubt and divide. Eugene vs Carter vs RickEugen wins hands down for the best one-liners of the episode His lovable loser persona came up a couple of levels for me because of this. The "I respect your hair game." comment made to Heath (One of the supply runners for Alexandria) and when he became cornered in the pantry for over hearing Carter's plot to kill Rick before he kill's them. True to form Eugene drops a jar he'd been holding and falls all over himself drawing Carter to his hiding spot. Eugene gazes up at the man all wide eyed and says "Hello." in the most charming southern drawl. I'm probably going to shed some tears when they kill him off. Rick is completely at odds with Carter who is a strong personality and a bit of a leader in his own right. He not only feels threatened by Rick's behavior, but I think perhaps a little bit as a man. With Deanna suddenly eating out of Ricks hand he feels the need at a point to take matters in his own hands. Fortunately he learned that Rick won't be handled so easily. Rick vs MorganRick and Morgan have the potential to be a powerful partnership, and they almost were for a time. Rick is in a bit of a misguided place right now and Morgan is either going to serve as the angel on his shoulder, and provide him with enough good sense to keep him from getting killed, or he's harboring ill feelings of abandonment toward Rick and has paced himself for the ultimate revenge. Only time will tell, but I hope they pull together for the greater good of the group and the people of Alexandria. Alexandria vs The WalkersThis episode's walker count made the FTWD finally mega horde look like a little league baseball team. The Quarry walkers were developed from walkers doing what they do, walking in the same direction until they strolled straight over the edge and landed inside. It was also part of what had seemed to magically be protecting the tiny town the whole time. Trucks had been strategically placed to keep the walkers from escaping, but wouldn't you know it... those trucks were unstable and ready to topple and release the Biblical sized horde lose on the town any moment. Team Rick to the rescue...Until the alarm sounds, and it all goes to shit.
Dose anyone else hear howling? Oh my walkers I love this show.
