Nothing short of genius Seven strangers with no common thread, weaving a patchwork quilt of survival with little more than one single reason: because they must. The man who they have all seen. The man they seek. The man who is nothing, intertwines them. Pittery pattery, through a heavy drape curtain at the back of the stage came a moaning and shuffling. skittery scattery. It has heard us talking and come out without invite. Lifting and pushing on the curtain, it appears like a large child in a bad Halloween costume.. Zip around the corner, guaranteed there will always be one. Come Zacary quack, pull out from the dark and awaken for dinner, a priest, now a servant of the devil broke free from its purple velour cage) Creepy and hilarious, that line pretty well sums it up. the tone of this blackest of comedies, but this isn't a comedy like he, he that was funny, more like he, hoo shit that was crazy. I enjoyed the crap out of this wonderfully tortured fable by the Dunne brothers and I want to brake this down piece by bloody piece because it was so much fun to read. so choose your weapons carefully and hold on to your arses, this is gonna be one hell of a ride. The Boy
The Old ManThe Dunne brothers have developed characters that are worthy of their own individual books, they breathed life into them with intriguing backstories and unique quirks and problems.
The LadyThe Lady believes in nothing, she has lost her faith since the apocalypse and requires much proof for everything. Everything but her dead friend Eliot, she carries his journal like it's the bible and it's his wise words that she trust. After the death of her last remaining friend, The Lady found herself alone wandering the outback contemplating ending it all when she too encounters the one thing that restores her lust for life... and being a bad ass too. Crazy Kettle GuyCrazy Kettle Guy is one of, if not my absolute favorite character in this story. He is so colorful and well written that you will know exactly what disorder he has without them having to tell you. his thought process is so spot on to that disorder, and seeing how he navigates his way through a zompoc is a riot, and it's refreshing to see it through the eyes of a special needs person, because we don't get that perspective ever in these kinds of books or films even. The Brothers Dunne KILLED it with this concept. Just wait until you read what happens when the little bell rings in the store. You'll die. Tunk, tunk, tunk. The Man
The Mother & The DaughterThey are two members of The Not So Happy Little Family. A mother hopelessly bound to her child by the deepest love and loyalty and a child bound to her mother by... Nothing. Theirs is a complicated relationship that I don't want to risk giving anything away by delving to deeply into here in this blog, but finding out where they're going with this one will have you on the edge of your seat.. Caw, caw. Hey, did someone see a bird in here?
The Nothing ManWhen you see him there is no formal greeting, no friendly catching up, or even cautious sizing up. He knows what needs to be done. Who or what is The Nothing Man and what is it here to do? The mysterious stranger who appears in your darkest hour ready to wedge war, move heaven and Earth on your behalf, why, what does he want? I have a feeling he won't be talking anytime soon, but keep your eyes on the sky, if the old crow is following you can be sure your moment is coming. Tis a Masterpiece!A Five Skull Read.
